St James Episcopal Church Celebrates It’s Building
St James is celebrating 30 years in the Midvale community and commemorating it’s building.
On May 7, 2023 St James Episcopal Church, 7486 S Union Park Avenue, will celebrate the 30th year of their building in Midvale UT. The celebration will begin with a festive Eucharist at 9:00 am that is open to everyone, followed by a light refreshment reception in our parish hall.
The parish of St James has a long history in the Salt Lake Valley. The first services were held 60 years ago in the ZCMI building at the Cottonwood Mall. The parish moved several times until we found our place in Midvale, building a new church here 30 years later. Our patron saint is St James the Greater, one of Jesus’ first disciples, and the brother of Saint John, together they are known as the “Sons of Thunder”.
St James has a history of working with the community through our Food Bank and blessing box. The Food Bank is open to anyone in the community needing food, on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The blessing box has non-perishable food available to the public anytime. Our “Garden of Eatin’” supplies the Food Bank with fresh produce. The church also offers its space to AA groups, a children’s theater group, musical groups, and a school group. In September, we will sponsor a classic car show, free of charge, that is open to the public. Our church also helps the Jordan Valley School at Halloween with a Trunk or Treat event and delivers Thanksgiving baskets to families in need there.
Our parish looks forward to at least, and hopefully more, years, in the Midvale community. Visit us on May 7th and help us celebrate our building, and the community that is St James!
