Voting Information for Salt Lake County (2025)
Oct 06, 2025 07:36PM ● By City Journals Editorial Team
Throughout the greater Salt Lake County area, voters are encouraged to pay attention to important calendar dates (like mail-in deadlines) and locate the most convenient ballot drop box.
Nov. 4 is the general election. Vote centers and drop boxes will close promptly at 8 p.m.
Residents have a few different options to submit their ballots, after receiving their ballot and prepaid envelope in the mail close to two weeks before the election date.
For voters planning to vote-by-mail, ballots must be received by 8 p.m.. on election day (postmarks don’t count). In other words -- mail early.
“Legislation just changed,” said Draper City Recorder Nicole Smedly. “I think the most important thing in this election is that vote-by-mail ballots need to be in the hand of the County Elections Office on Election Day.”
In previous election cycles residents were able to postmark their ballots on the day of the general election. Per the recently passed HB 300, voters do need to make sure their ballots are physically “in-hand” at the Salt Lake County office on Election Day.
“We had 110 ballots that were returned after the postmark deadline,” said city of West Jordan City Recorder Tangee Sloan. “I think it’s important for the residents to know that ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day, regardless of postmark.”
While registered voters do have the option to send in their vote-by-mail ballot before Nov. 4, they also have the option to vote in person. Check the accompanying list of Vote Box locations to find the ballot box nearest you. Similar to mail-in voting, ballots must be dropped off before 8 p.m. on election day.
