The leaves of fall are returning in full, orange bloom. But, so is Jr. Jazz youth basketball in all of its orange basketball glory according to Dustin Permann, South Salt Lake recreation coordinator.

The immensely popular program was back on the South Salt Lake recreation schedule this November after a two-year hiatus sidelined it due to continued Covid-19 transmission in the community.

There were four divisions for the league that started with a practice night on Tues. Nov 16, and it continued through Thurs. Dec. 16. The pre-K/kindergarten and first- and second-grade divisions played their games on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the third- and fourth-grade and fifth- and sixth-grade divisions competed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The kids played six games in total, competed in two practices and received two tickets apiece to the Utah Jazz game Dec. 20 against fan favorite and reigning NBA Rookie of the Year LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets—one that will be a game to remember.

Last year had Jr. Jazz participants in the community participating in virtual activities—ones that the kids pre-K and up to sixth grade could do from the comforts of their own homes.

Other programs have resumed full operations in the South Salt Lake rec program, including outdoor soccer which concluded in late August and adult pickleball in early November—both of which were played at Central Park.
