West Jordan Fire has been declared safer and more reliable.

“The West Jordan Fire Department was recently evaluated by the Insurance Services Office, and its score improved from a Class 3 to a Class 2,” Tauni Barker, West Jordan communications officer, said.

The rating system spans from 1, the best, to 10, the least effective.

An ISO rating is “an independent evaluation of every city in the United States on how risky your city is for fire,” Korban Lee, chief administrative officer, said.

It is possible that some households can get a reduction in their homeowners insurance rate starting this July 1.

“The better your fire response, the higher your rating,” Lee said. “The higher your rating, the lower your insurance rates are for property owners in your city.”

“Each department is evaluated on things like daily staffing levels, training, response time, station locations, equipment and water supply,” West Jordan Fire Chief Derek Maxfield said.
