Dominant Lady Titans lead the charge in Region 6 girls soccer, earn #4 seed in playoffs

Girls soccer was one of the first high school sports to start playing after COVID-19 put an end to competition last spring. The Olympus Lady Titans have made the most of their return to the field.
Olympus kicked off its season Aug. 6 and proceeded to win nine of its first 11 games. In Region 6 competition, the Titans got off to an 8-1 start. As of Sept. 18, the team was in first place, two games ahead of Skyline, Murray and Brighton in what is a competitive region. Fellow league foe East is also no slouch.
Still, the Titans have had their way with just about everyone.
In its first 12 games, Olympus has outscored its opponents 51-9. The Titans outpaced region teams 46-8 through the first nine matchups. Those totals included a 10-goal outburst in a shutout over Hillcrest on Aug. 25, eight goals in a blanking of Highland on Sept. 15 and nine goals in a 9-1 thrashing of Highland in the teams’ first meeting on Aug. 18. As of Sept. 16, Olympus had posted four shutouts and had seven games of scoring at least three goals.
The Titans’ only losses up to this point came against Corner Canyon on Aug. 11 in a shootout and at Brighton in a 1-0 setback on Sept. 10. On Aug. 13, to open Region 6 play, Olympus defeated the Bengals 4-3. Olympus scored two goals in each half of this home game, with Emma Neff scoring twice.
In a season where Olympus has been hot offensively, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see so many contributors. Eleven players scored during the first 11 outings, with Lily Webster pacing the Titans with 13 goals. Neff had chipped in 12, and Kelly Bullock and Sofia Ward had five apiece.
Goalkeeper Callie Droitsh has had 3.5 shutouts and even scored a goal when she got a chance to play on the field. Alyssa Blanck has had some time in the net as well and contributed 1.5 shutouts.
Olympus’ regular season went through September and concludes Oct. 1 at Murray, which the Titans defeated in a shootout at home on Sept. 3. At our press deadline, Olympus was sixth in Class 5A in the Ratings Percentage Index standings, just ahead of league mate Skyline.
Olympus' 2020 campaign earned the team a #4 seed in the 5A state playoffs, one spot shy of getting a first-round bye. They'll kick off the postseason against Payson (1-15) on Oct. 8 at 4 p.m.
Olympus appears to have a bright future. Though the team will lose seniors Webster and Ward, Neff, Bullock, Droitsh and Blanck will be back next season along with other key contributors.
