"I'm not going anywhere," Sandy City Councilwoman Kris Nicholl told the Sandy Journal on Thursday afternoon.

A May 17 article in the Reno Gazette Journal raised speculation among Sandy residents that Nicholl may soon be moving to Reno, Nevada with her family.

"Jason Nicholl of Sandy, Utah, was unanimously selected as the district’s new chief during a special Thursday meeting of the North Lyon County Fire Protection Board," reads the article

The article seemed to suggest that both would soon be moving to the Reno area, where he is expected to start his new job on July 1.

"
My wife and I love the city and have felt very welcomed here. This is a place where we want to continue raising our kids,” Jason Nicholl is quoted.

The Sandy Journal was originally made aware of this article by Dea Theodore, a resident of Nicholl's district, who ran for her seat in the 2017 municipal elections. On Wednesday afternoon, she sent an email to the rest of the city council which raised concerns over the possibility of a city council seat vacancy and how it would be filled.

While Councilwoman Nicholl initially declined to comment on the issue when asked by the Sandy Journal at the conclusion of the May 21 city council meeting, she clarified on Thursday that she has no plans to vacate her seat.

"My family has some logistics to figure out... but I have a lot going on here between my business and the city council. I'm not going anywhere," she said.
