City Journals Game of the Week: Brighton remains unbeaten after defeating West Jordan

The Brighton High boys basketball team extended its undefeated start to 5 games on Tuesday night after fending off the West Jordan Jaguars, 58-48.
The Bengals were consistent on offense throughout the night, scoring at least 14 points in each quarter. Junior forward Michael Le Fear led the way with 17 points, followed by senior point guard Adrijan Hadziselimovic with 12.
Brighton head coach Garrett Wilson also pointed to the efforts of senior forward Adam Templeton, who he said "played one of the best high school performances" he'd ever seen.
"Adam Templeton was almost a man among boys tonight. Rebounds. Loose balls. He came up with every single one of them," said Wilson.
The Bengals also played excellent defense, holding the Jaguars to just six points in two different quarters. They also held two of West Jordan's top scorers Gave Evans and Kaden Al-Mosawi (who were previously averaging over 10 points per game) to just 3 and 6 points respectively.
"We defended a good team pretty well and gave them some trouble at times. They've got some really good shooters and some tacky inside-out play," said Wilson.
Despite the win and undefeated start to the season, Wilson said there are still plenty of things for his team to work on, such as staying focused when the team has a big lead. The Bengals entered the fourth quarter with an 18-point lead, which got shaved down to just 10 points as they allowed the Jaguars to score 22 points in the quarter, almost equal to their total score from the previous three quarters.
"We got a little careless when we were up big. We need to shore that up. The cool part is we still see things on film that we can shore up and improve on. That's the exciting part, to have success and still have things to get better on," he said.
Next up for the Bengals is a road matchup with Granger on Friday night. The Bengals will also be looking forward to the Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines, a prestigious national tournament.
"We feel honored to be invited to go to that. We're going to play some pretty big time competition down there. It will be fun to see how our guys stack up," said Wilson.
