SANDY, UT (September 26, 2016) – Installation is complete for the first laser projection system offered in Utah at the Megaplex Theatres at Jordan Commons in Sandy.

Guests are now able to experience the new Megaplex laser projection system during regular operating hours at Jordan Commons.

“Once again, Megaplex is taking the lead in innovation and technology to enhance the movie going experience for guests by offering another Utah first,” said Blake Andersen, president of Megaplex Theatres. “Our goal is to offer movie fans the ultimate entertainment experience every time they visit their local Megaplex Theatres.  That means we will continue to offer state-of-the-art technology like laser projection, digital IMAX screens, Dolby Atmos audio systems, or premium amenities like heated luxury recliners, VIP auditoriums, quiet rooms, Coca Cola Freestyle beverages, as well as premiere parties and special events.”

Designed especially for movie theatres, the NEC DLP (Digital Light Processing) laser projector delivers an enhanced theatre experience with pristine images.

The laser projector features precise 2048 x 1080 resolution, 3D capabilities and 3-chip DMD (Digital Micro-mirror Device) reflection method.  The Megaplex projector has a total of 2,211,840 mirrors for each color - red green and blue. That equates to 6,635,520 total individual mirrors. Each chip can create 16.7 million pixels.

The result of laser projection translates into deeper, richer colors across a broader spectrum that is capable of generating more than 35 Trillion colors that come closer to the natural color people experience in nature.

The laser projector requires less power for cooling than traditional digital projection systems since the laser replaces the traditional Xenon bulb to create the light used to project the image on screen.

Megaplex guests are encouraged use the hashtag #Megaplexlaser to offer feedback about the new laser auditorium at Jordan Commons via the company’s Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram accounts.
