When asked, “Just what is the Colorado Plateau,” Ron Laughs and explains: “Only the most amazing place on earth! I have always been fascinated by its landscapes. It is an ancient upthrust of land, 130,000 square miles in size, that somehow stayed together through all the earthquakes, volcanoes, and the sliding of the tectonic plates between the continents. Its landmass is centered in 4 states, from the edge of the Rocky Mountains in Utah, down to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, over to the Aztec Ruins in New Mexico, and back up through Mesa Verde to Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado, with everything in between. People come from literally all over the world to see what it offers. It is scenery that can be found nowhere else, and this is what I paint.”
