Shaping Our Presence, Voice, Leadership and Activism

The University of Utah’s Black Faculty & Staff Association will host the first annual State of Utah Black Affairs Summit. The 2017 theme: Shaping Our Presence, Voice, Leadership & Activism will convene 200 participants and is designed to provide a full day of capacity building and learning for researchers, community activists, politicians, educators, policymakers, and students across the State of Utah. Participants have the opportunity to discuss and assess the institutions (i.e., healthcare, food access, education, politics, criminal justice) affecting the quality of life of Black residents in Utah. Participants take part in a daylong series of workshops, panels and networking activities. The University of Utah’s College of Social Work Voices of Diversity sponsors the State of Utah Black Affairs Summit. This Summit is in alignment with the University of Utah’s thirteen responses to racial climate as well as the University’s goal to promote student success to transform lives and engage communities to improve health and quality of life. This event is free and open to the public. About the University of Utah Black Faculty & Staff Association The Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) was established to address the issues and concerns unique to employees of African origin at the University of Utah. Ultimately, BFSA aims to bring together the African American community internally and externally.
