Passion for Jordan River sparks community cleanup effort

Some people have a passion for their religion or their careers, but Adriaan Boogard has a passion for cleaning up and reviving the Jordan River. With his leadership and the backing of the State of Utah Department of Natural Resources, a volunteer group consisting of Boy Scouts and residents met on April 19 to clean up the Taylorsville side of the Jordan River.

Kearns Council seeks answers on proposed split of golf course for corridor

The Utah Department of Transportation is now looking at realigning the 5800 West freeway alternative for the Mountain View Corridor to avoid ATK Thiokol property between 4100 South and 5400 South. This would split the West Ridge Golf Course and impact possibly 60 homes.

Councilmembers in West Valley City have given their nod to the proposal, but some members of the Kearns Community Council would like to discuss the concept with UDOT officials a bit further.

Hutchings wins Legislator of the Year award


State Rep. Eric Hutchings (R-Kearns, West Jordan, West Valley) has received the Joyce Barnes Legislator of the Year award from the Council for Exceptional Children (Special Education). He received the award during a ceremony at Murray High School on April 12.

The award is named after Barnes, who was the longtime Director of Special Education programs for the Granite School District.
