Safety first. Everyone has heard the two-word reminder since childhood. But on June 15, those words will go from cautious reminder to a giant festival.

The Utah Department of Public Safety and the Department of Transportation will hold their annual safety fair on Thursday, June 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Calvin Rampton Complex Grounds (4501 S. 2700 West).

“We’re trying to get the safety message out to everybody,” said Sherry McCusker, event coordinator.

The event will serve as a resource for safety and preparedness information as well as a festival with activities and free food. People can win a free meal for pledging to never text and drive and to wear their seatbelt from La Sage Bistro, whose staff will cook the meal at the fair.

Attendees will also be able to see helicopters, motorcycles and police dogs.

“We want to teach and provide aspects of information both for at work and at home,” McCusker said.
