Butterfield Canyon Victim Identified

The truck belonging to Alejandro Reyes has not been located. It is described as a red two-door 2002 Toyota Tacoma, with Utah plate W238EA.

LOCATION:   9500 E Butterfield Canyon

DATE:             October 5, 2016 

WHO:              Victim: Alejandro Reyes, 26 year old male               

WHAT:            Homicide

Salt Lake County- On October 5, 2016 Unified Police Department (UPD) Detectives were called to investigate a suspicious package located in Butterfield Canyon.  The package was long and wrapped in heavy plastic.  Upon immediate investigation, it was thought to contain either a human or animal body.  Investigators from the Office of the Medical Examiner (OME) arrived and transported the package to their medical facility. 

On October 6, OME officials began opening the package which revealed a deceased human adult male.  The cause of death has not yet been determined.  The length of time of death has not yet been determined either.

UPD Detectives have now identified the victim as 26 year old Alejandro Reyes of West Jordan, UT.  He was last seen by family on Saturday, October 1.  He was reported missing on October 5.  In addition, the truck belonging to Alejandro Reyes has not been located.  It is described as a red two-door 2002 Toyota Tacoma, with Utah plate W238EA (see attached stock photo). 

This case is now being investigated as a criminal homicide. UPD Detectives are asking the public for any information related to the death of Alejandro Reyes.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.
