Press Release submitted to City Journals

August 26th - Ogden, UT. Live music is making its way to the grassy plaza in the Junction starting this Friday, August 26. Music on the Plaza will feature local songwriters and musicians, helping to pave a path for future Junction programming and live performances throughout downtown.

The six week series kicks off this Friday with Caleb Wendt performing 6 to 8 pm. The series will continue every Friday through September 30th.

In addition to adding a sense of vibrancy to the Junction, live music programs have a track record for improving communities and downtowns, helping to create a sense of place and comfort.

“I had the opportunity to perform at the Junction last summer,” said Brett Turner, a local musician and one of the coordinators for the Ogden Downtown Alliance. “I saw folks slow dancing with each other on the plaza after grabbing dinner together. I saw kids and their parents sitting together while they enjoyed their ice cream cones. I saw teenagers holding hands who stopped to listen as they waited for their movie to start, and I saw workers from the different restaurants come out and listen for 15 minutes while on their break. As a songwriter you long for the opportunity to perform in a setting like this where your songs provide the soundtrack for someone’s Friday Night.”

Chairs and bench seating is available but the music is best enjoyed from one of the neighboring restaurant patios. Enjoy some of Ogden’s best eats, maybe a margarita or two, and take in the sounds from the gorgeous grass plaza central to it all.

A handful of the neighboring businesses are sponsoring the series, including Iggy’s Sports Grill. Manager, Steve Trujillo is especially excited for the program,  “At Iggy’s we’re about fresh food and fun, you know, we’ve always thought having live music on that plaza out front would just bring things all together. And this series is really kicking off at the height of our patio season.”
