West Valley - Two elderly residents were trapped inside of a home, unable to get out on their own, when officers were dispatched to the residence at approximately 8 a.m. on Jan. 25.
Unified Police Officer Brandon Sulich, dressed in his full dress uniform as he traveled to the funeral of fallen officer Doug Barney, saw the fire and stopped to help.
West Valley City Police Department Sgt. Trudy Cropper and Officer Scott Folkers also responded to the home.
The three officers found the home with smoke pouring from all of the windows as well as the roof. It's estimated at least 40 percent of the home was engulfed at the time. All three officers entered the home in an attempt to rescue the two people inside.
The residents were safely assisted out of the home and suffered only minor injuries. The officers were not hurt.
Body cam video is available from the scene of the fire.
